Calling prospective employers and students to participate in Wisconsin’s registered apprenticeship program for Data Analysts, Software Developers and IT Service Techs. An alternative to pursuing a traditional degree, the apprenticeship combines work-based learning, workplace mentorship and academics to build the needed skills and certifications for these careers. Our mission is to enhance the delivery of public services to improve the lives of Milwaukeeans. We aim to create and maintain community resources by engaging residents in relationship building and technical problem-solving.  Hack Nights are where people from all walks of life get together and “hack” away — iteratively, but deliberately try to draw on transferrable knowledge and skills – at developing deeper knowledge on local issues, a novel approach improving some service or form.

Want to make a direct impact on the development of a young IT professional?  Coach, mentor and help guide future technology careers for participants in i.c.stars Milwaukee, and grow your own leadership while doing it!  The program targets young adults in underserved communities who are interested in the technology field.  A variety of volunteer activities are available, including one-time coffee chats, reviewing resumes or mock interviews.

FOR-M is a community-run initiative to help entrepreneurs understand their next steps, serve as a guide into the tech startup space and connect them into Milwaukee’s tech ecosystem. We’re looking to grow our network of volunteers to assist FOR-M founders. Take advantage of this easy and rewarding opportunity by signing-up to be a FOR-M mentor.

Help schools close the computer science gap – TEALS volunteers needed for 2019-20. TEALS (a program of Microsoft Philanthropies) helps high schools build and grow sustainable computer science programs. Volunteer CS professionals are paired with classroom teachers looking to make a lasting impact in their students’ lives. Over 125 volunteers are needed to support high schools in southeast Wisconsin for the 2019-20 school year. See a map of schools and apply at the TEALS volunteer site.

Join the Milwaukee Tech Hub Coalition in a regional initiative to teach an hour of code to local students during Computer Science Education Week: December 7–13, 2020. You don’t need to be a technologist – just pick an activity and a time to volunteer. Register today, so you to have enough time to adequately plan for participation and to make sure we can match you/your organization with virtual events, volunteers and/or student groups leading up to the event.

Seeking volunteers from the tech industry to mentor college students who work with local nonprofits on semester-long IT projects, such as database development, website creation, social media campaigns and more. Contact us if you’re interested in helping aspiring tech professionals, while giving back to the community. Nonprofits also can submit an application for proposed projects.

Technology United’s mission is to engage tech professionals in the work of United Way through giving in support of the community campaign, advocating for United Way to tech vendors and colleagues, and volunteering with their unique skillsets to benefit local nonprofits and underserved communities. Their volunteer efforts include hosting an annual technology career fair and facilitating job shadows with local MPS students at their respective companies. Members contribute a leadership level gift of $1,200 or more annually.
